Re: Puzznic (USA)
All the videos I see from the game have music.
"Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, five times more, perhaps not even that."

Re: Puzznic (USA)
It appears this is an unverified Redump rip: http://redump.org/disc/16339/
It doesn't have music even in emulators, so it appears the dumper made a bad rip.
If somebody has this game on the original retail disc, please check it out.

Re: Puzznic (USA)
You actually have the retail disc of this game? If it's just a CD-R, it doesn't matter because it would be from the same source as Redump.

I do, and if there were any problem playing its image with PSIO I would have submitted a bug report after making damn sure I wasn't wasting anyone's valuable time.

Re: Puzznic (USA)
This might mean there was a defective batch of CDs with this game printed. Or maybe the US versions is simply bugged? Either way, it's very good we are aware of this now.

Re: Puzznic (USA)
Yes, thanks, it seems to be the case. I just found several similar problems with music and thought they were probably caused by one bug. Also there is music in youtube videos, but they are probably from NTSC-J version. This is useful nonetheless because now anyone can find this problem on forum and be informed that this is retail disc problem. It's very weird for retail discs to have such problems, and the game feels very "empty" without music...
Please, archive this, Matt, I'm sorry I didn't try this from CD.

Re: Puzznic (USA)
I confirmed there is no music with the redump copy of Puzznic (USA) using various emulators on a PC, including mednafen. The redump copy of Puzznic (Japan) seems to have working audio.
Oddly enough, this YouTube video of the game is from the USA disc, which sometimes has working audio, but sometimes does not.

This issue with the retail disc was reported back in 2003. https://www.ngemu.com/threads/puzznic-r ... psx.38124/

Re: Puzznic (USA)
Was this published by Midas in the USA? I can totally see Midas printing a broken beta version of the game and selling it, to be honest.

Re: Puzznic (USA)
This game doesn't set CdlSetmode properly for playing XA. It's a bug in the programming itself. If the game were hacked this code could be injected to make it work, but there must be fixed version of it which works which the company released

Re: Puzznic (USA)
Midas never fixed the US release, it seems.
