CD audio playback anomalies with various games
CD audio playback anomalies with various games
I've come across two issues with playback of CDDA and CD-XA audio from games that use both formats for their music. Here's a video I put together showing the issues in question in four select games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqOw9n13XHY
To sum it up, a number of games have volume controls that don't work at all (V-Rally 2 used for demonstration here) or have their music volume increased or decreased by a fixed amount compared to the raw files on the disc (RockMan 6 Complete Works used to demonstrate this as well as, inadvertently, RockMan X3). Along with that, every game I've tested with CDDA or CD-XA has an issue where the stereo panning will randomly flip (this is shown in the video with Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus and RockMan X3). The different EXTDSP modes don't fix either of these issues.

Unless I'm mistaken, this is due to PSIO's lack of (full) support for the ATV registers. It's on the todo list for what I know; will probably be fixed at some point in hopefully the not too distant future.

So the PSIO has no control over volume of the CD audio tracks at all?
I think that's an essential part of a correct audio balance in a game.
PS.

Yes, the volume controls problem is known and a fix for it is on the to-do list.
I'm assuming stereo panning will be fixed as well once the full ATV register support is added.

SPU signalling requires some "heavy mainboard modifications".. is it different than the ATV registers?
How possibly does it need heavy mainboard modifications if the PSIO a true ODE?

SPU signaling is an issue which is separate from ATV.James-F wrote: ↑September 16th, 2019, 4:22 amAccording to this: https://jira.cybdyn-systems.com.au:2053 ... ?filter=-5

Vib Ribbon is the only game which would require "heavy mainboard modifications".

Re: CD audio playback anomalies with various games
The problem that 'Ace' is describing can be fixed when the ATV registers are fully implemented

Including the stereo flip?
