Blazing Dragons (U)

Post by SavitarSvit » September 1st, 2019, 6:38 pm

The game worked perfectly on the old firmware (K1V3).
Now the game on midboot start, after cutscenes game freeze on black screen. On K1V3, the game works but not sound at the "crystal dynamics" screen and no voice acting in the game.

I dont see a reason to test the games anymore, since the symptoms of non-working games are the same. Fix these games, and all games with similar problems will work.

Let's hope that's actually true. It was an assumption during the programming of the current firmware and look where that got us. :?

Interesting, so Crystal Dynamics games seem to be affected with this particular bug. Those Western game devs and their often improvised coding! :x Though to be fair they sometimes didn't get adequate documentation from the Japanese console makers so it wasn't always their fault.

This can happen with any game, theoretically speaking. That's why PSIO can't be based on game-by-game patches.

Huh, so 2.6.7 fixed the Tomb Raiders but not this one.

I can confirm this as well. The intro movies and then the first cut scene will play. You'll then get a black screen and not advance. I am on latest (sept 3rd) FW.

This is fixed in Menu System V2.6.8 which we will release soon. You need to use K1V1 via LoadExec for it to work though.

Do we have a database with the proper settings for each game?
If not, it would be great to have one.

We should wait for the firmware to get stable.

Right.
Meanwhile, one could just use the forum search function.
Still I think a thread on the forum would be useful for noobs like me.

btw, do I go through the EXTDSP Modes till the game loads?

We already discussed this here. Please use the forum search. ;-)
It's impractical to keep an official list because, as already mentioned, the settings are subject to change. And Cybdyn would have to test each and every game once in a while, just to figure out the few games that don't work well with the default setting. If somebody runs into a problem, among the first things to try is to change EXTDSP. If another mode fixes the problem, said somebody can make the setting permanent for that game as per Systems Manual. Shouldn't take too long.

Thanks.

I'm interested to know why the game worked on K1V3 before, but now requires K1V1?
Manual says it's related to XA and CD audio, but I see it can generate many more game breaking bugs besides CD audio.
I wonder if Matt fixes these EXTDSP problema per game as with hackjob emulators like Snes9x?
Are these EXTDSP modes only for games that have XA or CD audio, or it breaks/fixes other games that have nothing to do with XA or CD audio?

Pardon the many questions, gathering info here.

It probably works with K1V3 and even K1V4. I just tested it with K1V1 and it worked on that.

Compatibility modes are a standard with devices like this, so it's all fine as long as the games actually work. For example, OPL for PS2 has a lot of compatibility modes and sometimes they go in weird combinations, so just picking the right EXTDSP mode is nothing in comparison.

new firmware:
The game does not freeze after loading on K1V1, KiV2. On K1V3, mifboot - game freezes.
K1V1, KiV2 - During the game, the speech of the characters is interrupted.

I confirm! Version NTSC, after the screen "loading" works only mode k1v2. Dialogues in 1 - 1.5 seconds break, and take off the text.
