240p Test Suite

Post by Takehaniyasubiko » July 7th, 2019, 12:46 pm

I've been using 240p Test Suite a lot for the last few days and I've noticed it sometimes doesn't boot properly. It seems totally random. It boots just fine most of the time, but sometimes there will just be a black screen. At first, I thought this had something to do with resetting PS1, but it can happen even after a power cycle, on a fresh boot.
Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, five times more, perhaps not even that.

That's a custom made program isn't it?

It is.
I've used it occasionally but haven't had any trouble as far as I can remember. Also no idea if the version I use is still up to date. I copied it over back in September 2018.

Edit: According to the Github repository, my version is up to date and MD5 is matching the current binary.

I've noticed it only because I've been using it A LOT in the past few days. I was calibrating some CRTs and it simply doesn't boot at times, seemingly at random.

Can it have something to do with its very small size (867,9 kB)?

Hard to tell. I couldn't boot it on Epsxe. Haven't tried Mednafen.

I tested it with the new firmware and it still gives a black screen of death at random, no matter if it's Midboot or any of the KV1s.

That's a shame, I use this 240p test suite plenty.
It has a "stop cd spin" command when the CD loads into memory, is that emulated correctly?

It is indeed a homebrew but it might be as hard a Jackie Chan to emulate correctly, since it doesn't boot in Beetle PSX (libretro) either which is considered to be very accurate. It does load in Xebra though.

It mostly loads fine and it's usable, but yeah, sometimes, seemingly at random, it will just get stuck on a black screen.
