Lunar: Silver Star Story doesn't work in K1v3

Post by evil_ash_xero » December 30th, 2018, 7:36 am

I have all my games working (well, except for the patched version of Dracula X), except for Lunar: Silver Star Story. I have read the manual. I have went to forums and read guides. This thing just won't run.

I rip the disc, and it has the multi tracks. I mount the game in Alcohol 120 (I also tried Daemon Tools), and choose the "Create Image File From Disc" in IMGBurn, as all the guides say.

I can mount the image on Alcohol, and it says there is media present. But when I put it in the folder to run on the PSIO, it just goes black.

So, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, or what. I think I have followed everything. I tried running it with it's cue. I tried running it with a cu2, and I made a Mulidisc.lst file for it, and none of those seemed to do anything. And I tried all those together, and separately.

Also, the Multidisc.lst file is just made with Windows Text, correct? You just change the .txt to .lst? I was a little confused when reading the guide, and I couldn't find a definitive answer on that.

I'd like to point out that I have Lunar 2 running fine, but that doesn't have the multitrack thing going on, just the multidisc. So, I have A multidisc game working.

I tried that game yesterday and I got the same problem: black screen and nothing happening. I set the CDDA mode to K1v2 and it booted into the game just fine. Try it and let us know if it worked for you.

Hello. I think you shouldn't need to virtual mount if you got the disc. Just rip it straight from imgBurn. As for the multidisc.lst file you have to:

+ place all your multi disc cd images in one folder.
+ take a moment to name them properly (for example similar to this):

metal chorus flower (Disc 1).bin
metal chorus flower (Disc 1).cue
metal chorus flower (Disc 2).bin
metal chorus flower (Disc 2).cue

+ Make sure the name in cue files reflect your changes too.
+ Then open up PSIO Systems Console and choose "File->Batch File Image Conversion":

Image

If done correctly the tool will create the MULTIDISC.LST file as well as the CU2's for each image.

That method works fine on most multidisc games. But SSS has multi tracks for each disc. That's the big difference with that game. I'll try the method the other poster mentioned, and I'll come back and say how it went.

EDIT: Apsley Garrard's method worked. K1v2 did the trick. I don't know if this is a flaw or anything, but maybe it should be passed along to the team, so they know there's problems with v3 and this game.

Changed the subject title, so maybe Matt will notice it.

IIRC the program is able to create a multidisc file even if a disc image is comprised of multiple bins. That's what your cue's are for. But hey if you claim to have it figured out then good for you.

We'll take a look at the K1V3 assembler logic and try to get it sorted.

I'm having this same exact problem. Good to know I'm not the only one. :)

I'd like to report that with K1V4 Lunar SSS does start and run now but unfortunately hangs after a period of time. As a test, I let the game run through its opening loop. At first all seemed good but it eventually froze while the video was playing. Back to K1V2 I guess

Ah, in that case it's fine to just use that, of course. The setting can be made permanent by creating an empty file named K1V2 inside the game's directory.

Forgive me but what is this exactly? It's a new EXTDSP setting?

It's a different way to start a game. You can read a bit about it in the systems manual. I'm on mobile right now, so it's a bit hard to copy and paste.
You can find it a few lines below the EXTDSP settings. It will use K1V4, which cannot be changed. But it seems to be the most compatible operation mode as of yet. The only trouble I had so far was with WipEout 2097.

Midboot also hangs. You must use K1V2

Matt, FYI K1V2 still has issues with this game. It consistently hangs after a period of time if you just launch the game and let it loop through its opening demo.

K1V2 is just a workaround of sorts. Ideally, all games should boot with Midboot. If something doesn't, then it will likely have issues even if it boots with K1V1-3.

I see. Yeah Midboot doesn't work for this game either so clearly some more work is needed to fix it. Thanks for the new firmware though
