Already reported.

There are three known bugs in Menu System 2.6.17 right now. Fortunately, none of them affects games.
Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, five times more, perhaps not even that.

But I did also DL by using the alternate link.
Maybe that's the problem?

I use the first link. The download will start in about 1 minute, so just wait after clicking it.

Also, try resetting PSIO with START+SELECT on the initialization screen.
First of all I downloaded by using both links.

I tried resetting PSIO with START+SELECT on the initialization screen and I was now able to install the new firmware. :dance

But...
Although if the Sound Options are turned "ON" there is no sound by selecting any entry.
And when I try to turn on the background music the PSX freezes immediatley!

So something is still fishy here! :naughty

EDIT: OK, this was already reprorted except the issue with having no sound effects, too.

Yeah, those bugs were reported right away. Just two little mistakes in the lines of code, most likely caused by the lack of proper sleep on Matt's part. ;)

@Take:i updated from 2.6.16,like i said, never before i have problems with firmware updates.
But Matt needs to learn to test things before releasing, because this is ridicilous situation,he has to take a group of beta testers before release something to the mass, cause goin back to previous firmware isn't possible.
Its just easyer for him, like other teams do.

The manual does say to always try START+SELECT if an update isn't recognized automatically.

But the audio bugs shouldn't have slipped. It's probably something trivial, like a missing line break or a comma.

When I rest the setting i pick a music track and the music plays but if i change the music track there's no more music and if i pick no music it locks up the console this firmware is really buggy since my Ps1 is an other version i can''t have a wallpaper hopefully Matt fixes these issues soon...

If you ended up here like me because of the sound change bug try select+start master reset twice seems that something is stuck from the previous settings and doesn't flush the previous command and adds the new one so the system doesn't know what to do with two commands.

I did the select+start once and got stuck on loading loop then I did it again and now is running.

Okay this should have been fixed in V2.6.18. If it's related to "Fastboot on Midboot" however, then that will be fixed in V2.6.19 :)
