I think they mean converting cover scans to 80x84x24 Bitmaps so they can be used within the PSIO's Menu System. Basically:

For mostly Linux and Mac users who aren't afraid of the terminal, I put together something using ImageMagick that I still use for my cover scan needs (and used for the example above). Though I'd guess the target group of your Theme Creator is slightly different. :-)

is there a specific reason the cover size is so small? having it that small means you can barely make out anything on it

sorry Razor to answer you late but my pc has some problems and I can not use it for the moment ... 😪 Yes I am talking about taking a photo and putting it in the specific format of the .bmp cover for the psio! ^ ^ I see no software that does! Several people have made "fullsets of .bmp covers for psio us / eu / jp" but a few are missing!

I use an on-line converter that does the job very well.

https://online-converting.com/image/convert2bmp/#

Keep the color bit at 24-bit.
Change the width to 80 and the height to 84 and uncheck Keeping proportions. Then add your picture.

EDIT: I see Razor updated his software to do all that anyway so use it instead. Lol.

I wonder if there was a way to increase the resolution of the PSIO covers while lowering the load times? (I think it takes 1-2 seconds to load the current BMPs)

I know that the PS1 has some severe bandwidth limitations, but hopefully Matt and Yuri will find a way to improve the menu looks! obviously compatibility and bugs are the priority now.

i agree, for example you can utilise compression.
here is an example of the image i posted above only i've compressed it, it is a png with a resolution of 478x466 but the filesize is only 81.6kb so feel free to take a look and i'm sure you'll agree the quality is still amazing despite the filesize.

Will this theme load the menu any faster?

this is an application for making your own theme easily, nothing more.

it is indeed impressive despite filesize, and I believe there is a way to make it even lighter without loosing too much quality. I'm not a photoshop expert but I can definitely give it a go for fun.

Oh and thank you very much Razor X for this theme creator!!!
