Re: What is this new Cybdyn PS1 ODE?

Oh well I was hoping it was the DCIO.

Re: Reduce Scrolling Animation Speed - 60fps PSIO Menu

It's pretty fast, I had to turn off scrolling sound as it was like a machine gun. As you all know, my main lament is that menu boot takes nearly 20 seconds every time.

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

Take this with a grain of salt but I'm a patron and he updated a couple of weeks ago that he's moving forward with production - but some of the process takes place in the US so he's ordering out of his own pocket first and not taking pre-orders because he doesn't want to take people's money if ther...

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

Terraonion produce high-end products, so that's the buyer they shoot for. There are other cheaper solutions as we all know. They're not a "retail/professional" product in quite the same way. You will get something in a nice box, that looks nice, with a great GUI menu, and high compatibility. I've be...

Re: How did the Chinese manage to clone PSIO

It amazes me a regulator hasn't yet looked in to the still dodgy as hell PayPal association and the complete monopoly they continue to hold and abuse. I've been using eBay for over a decade. Never had a single issue with them. They always helped with shoddy sellers. The key is spotting such sellers...

Does anyone know what are the remaining bugs in USB-GDROM?
I don't believe there are any. Remember he is literally using the chipset pulled from OEM GD drives, so it's as close as you can get. Also one of the reasons his device is so expensive.

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

The end of the USB GD-ROM appears in sight. MNEMO just updated his page that what appears to be the drive cable headers he uses are no longer in production so he can only make 85 more of them. Obviously this seems totally bizarre but par the course, and yet another reason the DCIO is truly needed! ...

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

USB GD-ROM and GDEMU are basically stagnant devices. They're still being made, but there's next to no improvement on either. There can't be, though. They are supposed to offer 100% compatibility and their hardware design doesn't allow for any fancy menus. The creators consider them finalized. Well ...

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

We'll announce all the details of DCIO when we are close to showing the prototype to the public. Ideally we are designing it so you can use the original GD-ROM + DCIO (exactly like how PSIO can use the CD-ROM drive too) and the Menu System for it will be highly polished with a beautiful design taki...

We're starting development again on DCIO. It will be a very high quality and much cheaper product that is easily available :)
Good to hear! I would also consider offering 3D-printed options to secure/house the board in the DC, and one that replaces the drive space under the lid.

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

The expansion port is almost certainly not going to work. The Dreamcast G2 bus that the expansion port is attached to is specifically designed not to be able to read or write to the bus the GD-ROM is on, nor does it have DMA access to the memory mapped to the game execution. Well, that's lousy to h...

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

The Dreamcast serial port is extremely slow. I remember back in the DC scene days it would take hours to rip one GD rom via the serial port. If you’re talking about the expansion port the modem plugs into, that would definitely be fast enough. Not sure how it would work though. Correct, I was sugge...

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

With DC, you actually need something that plugs to where GD-ROM normally is. Other solutions will suck in regards to speed and compatibility. Well, I'm not sure if anyone has actually tried the expansion slot interface, but I feel like it would work. Most of those optical-media based systems offere...

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

PS1 had so many board revisions, doing a drive replacement could be messy. As for the Dreamcast, as with any system, you have to consider the bandwidth (transfer rate) for each interface. The serial port on the back is 2mbps ~ 0.25 MB/s, which as we saw with the SD Card Adapters, does work, but it's...

Re: Mega CD

No it's only emulating the cartridge mappers. The FPGA emulates the CD's 68000 chip in hardware. Also emulates the Master System FM core.

Re: Mega CD

Virtua Racing (Genesis) now runs, so they have 100% compatibility on 16-bit games. 32X CD games will eventually be possibly once they produce a slot adapter to be able to plug the cartridge into the expansion slot on the side. I'm an OEM original hardware guy through and through, but I draw the line...

Re: Mega CD

They have a ton of R&D into this product, so it's going to be priced accordingly. Plus it will be a full retail product with professional box and whatnot. They're also I believe licensing a X68000 FPGA core to mimic the original CD CPU, not sure how cheap that is. As for the Ever Drive, Krikzz has s...

Re: Official DCIO News and Development Thread

Well, both USBGDROM and GDEMU are difficult to procure, and both use FAT32 so memory card size is hampered.
