Re: [Release] PS1 PSIO Theme Creator v0.3b

Yeah, this time it's small enough to display everything.

Do you know why the big version gets cut off like that?

Re: [Release] PS1 PSIO Theme Creator v0.3b

Still a bust under Wine.

I can always use the Gimp templates, so it's not biggie, but I thought you should know about this.

Re: [Release] PS1 PSIO Theme Creator v0.3b

The mini version works better with a drop-down list, but it doesn't have the interpolation options at the bottom.

Re: [Release] PS1 PSIO Theme Creator v0.3b

Any chances for a fix to Linux Wine? The app itself works, but the window is cut off for some reason.

Re: [Release] PS1 PSIO Theme Creator v0.3a

Thanks, RazorX.

All of those options are useful. I recommend people to experiment with each wallpaper to find the optimal interpolation method.

Re: [Release] PS1 PSIO Theme Creator v0.3

bare in mind we are only dealing with an image that's 320x256 I know, that's what I thought myself at first. However, after dealing with a lot of different image types, I realized that even at 240p interpolation makes a big difference in many cases. I remember doing a wallpaper with a custom anime ...

Re: [Release] PS1 PSIO Theme Creator v0.3

it now saves the wallpaper.bmp Interpolation as Nearest Neighbor. Nearest neighbor? That's the fastest method, but it just takes a rounded value of the expected position. It results in many jagged edges in most cases. Keeping image quality in mind, shouldn't there be options for Bilinear interpolat...

Re: Wanna see something really sad?

Wow ok. The Picture looks old, but i cant believe that, responsible people are not known about the value of this tons of consoles?! More info would be nice: Where is that and why? The cellar of a dead nerd? The details for that picture weren't shared, but what "responsible people" would pile up con...

Re: [Menu System V2.6.15] Bug Reports

Because the modchip detection logic depends on correctly emulated CdlInit/CdlReset logic which Mednafen didn't do until recently. Mednafen was issuing the CdlTest command correctly, but their CdlInit/CdlReset was poor. That's very good to know. The game was actually acting as if the emulator used a...

Re: [Menu System V2.6.15] Bug Reports

I don't think the programmers of the patch tested it correctly. There is an anti-mod screen which triggers and that's all they would have checked. They didn't actually play the game and check that the music was working. So this is an incomplete patch. That's possible, although it seems so strange t...

Re: [Menu System V2.6.15] Bug Reports

"Grind Session [NTSC]" does a modchip check (which passes on PSIO), but it then does a BIOS check. So if you play the NTSC version of the game on a PAL PlayStation, it will not work. It has nothing to do with CdlInit/CdlReset. The game will only play music on an NTSC or NTSC-J console. There are pa...

Re: [Menu System V2.6.15] Bug Reports

@Take. CybDyn will not be counting frames or anything remotely like that. They will measure CD read/seek times with an oscilloscope and and will tune these times BY EYE till they PSIO roughly matches the CD reading. "Roughly" is not enough. Anything above 10 milliseconds can already result in a los...

Re: [Menu System V2.6.15] Bug Reports

Anyway, once all these issues are fixed and we've solved the audio issues in the games you mentioned, we'll look at "Final Fantasy 7" and the performance issues. A major one we need to fix first however is "Need for Speed". That sounds great, but please remember what the problem is: both the CD and...

Re: [Menu System V2.6.15] Bug Reports

Note that I have managed to fix Time Crisis by doing a full hardware reset, but I want to know why it happens which is why I want to try the two ideas above. TBH, a "full hardware reset" should be the norm since day one because all PS1 games were designed to work in such an environment. I think you...

Re: Final Fantasy 7 - pre battle stuttering

Since a frame is around 16 ms (1000/60) and PSIO is sometimes 2-3 frames behind the CD in FF7 (and that's why it then erratically jumps by 2-3 frames to make up for it), we're talking about 32-48 miliseconds of maladjustments somewhere in the vast FPGA/ARM code.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 - pre battle stuttering

you can see it in the game "Croc 2 (USA)", there in the introductory videos (on the game engine) you can clearly see how sometimes the camera and sound have slight delays (PSIO not having time to load data) Yes, and during gameplay in Soul Reaver. Basically, any game which streams data during gamep...

Re: Final Fantasy 7 - pre battle stuttering

OSSC x3 PSIO v2.6.15 https://youtu.be/ePWANmPdIS0 https://youtu.be/QbByzyUs74g FF7 CD https://youtu.be/anIFEa-X4jw Yeah, this is basically a visual confirmation of what's been reported. The frame pacing is more erratic on PSIO and the party shows up after a longer pause. Note: disregard the initial...

Re: Final Fantasy 7 - pre battle stuttering

@James-F from that video I only see 1 frame stutter when the building is coming into view. That's actually not the issue. vitaflo explained it best a few months ago when he overalyed two videos showing what's going on: the frame pacing on PSIO is not even, like on the CD . PSIO can jump between 4 a...
