This picture looks like it may be a DCIO proto-PCB found on the Cybdyn Systems mainpage- is it? Seems to have a resemblance to the green PCB in the image from two post's above. Just curious ;)

By looking at it you will be replacing the dc cd drive also by looking closer at it you used a ide to sata converter with or with slave pins can't really tell but one thing that stands out is that the dc is powering the hard drive. I know it cam handle it but its recommends for it not to as the power supply is extremely hard to come by if its a pal unit. As it wasn't made to handle the extra power demands. So with the removal or the dc cd drive etc... Does it take let stress off the power supply? Also would it have it own software or will it be using dream shell

Yes DCIO will replace the GD-ROM drive entirely since it's loud and slow. However, if we decide to utilise an SD Card model, then the GD-ROM drive will be able to be fitted alongside the SD Card.

We have not tested with the Dreamcast power supply whilst using a 2.5" HDD yet. We were using an external supply for the time being. If the power supply can not handle it, we will stick with using SD Cards. We will need to reverse the Dreamcast power supply to ensure it will first handle the current.

DCIO will use it's own system which we are programming in-house, but we may also support the use of DreamShell too.

the dc power supply can handle a 2.5 inch hard drive fine as it runs 3.3v I think of hand but the dc can self power a 3.5 ide hard drive but its not recommended as you could risk blowing up the power supply and then say goodbye to the dc as its extreamly hard to find the pal or ntsc unit these days I have down the hhd over clock and led upgraded to one of my units with duel boss and wired up a power plug for the 3.5mm hard drive also done the vga and 3.5mm audio mod.
i did come across a unit that run off 3.3v and will up the power for the 3.5 hard drive they made it for the ps2 slim hhd mod which it work well as the ps2 cant handle 3.5 hard drive due to power issues and this unit fitted it. but still I'm after a nicer easier cleaner way of doing it. that where hopeful you will come into it matt

Ahh but that clunkly drive has charm! So many memories hearing the "CHHHHHH" sounds of the lens moving on its rail. :P

Are you able to run a custom firmware like you can on PSX or does the Dreamcast always boot from its internal Firmware?

PS Matt I see a PS2 in your profile pic.....any news to share? ;)

We can run a custom firmware like the PSX does with PSIO, meaning we can run and execute our own Menu System :P

Haha, nah... Just playing some PS2 ;)

What formats will it support?
Gdi, cdi, iso, bin, Redump, etc ...?
I love my XKey, my WODE and my 3Key. Waiting for WiiUODE.

Looks good! My USB-GDR works nice, but the menu is awful and the developer is an undesirable. So I'd love to sell it and get yours!

I really like the idea of keeping the GD-ROM drive intact while also utilizing an SD card loading alternative- I love keeping the original function of the system while adding so much more. I'd love to see a worthy GameCube SD loader from you guys at some point as well. Swiss sucks and WASP Fusions can't be found easily or as cheap as you used to be able to.

The problem is, there's no physical room to fit both. I'll talk with Yuri about this however and try to design a system where both can be used if possible like PSIO.

I think CDI should be one of the more desirable images to be supported. It seems like a majority of decent rips and cracks are CDI themselves. Of course I use GDI solely on my USB GD-ROM. Like the version of Shenmue 2 that is cracked and modded to utilize spoken English from the X-Box version and is exclusively made for ODE use. So GDI and CDI should be definite supported ROM methods. Just a quick opinion :)

Picking up a Dreamcast soon, I was wondering if there was any new update to this?

Not at the moment. We're focusing on PSIO at this time, and DCIO will follow afterwards.
