Hi. I'm on the December orders and I'm afraid of not being home to receive the PSIO due to vacations. Can my PSIO be shipped in mid September? Thanks.
Sure, what was your order number so I can place it on hold for you?
My order number is 3342.
Thank you very much.

Hi guys. In anticipation I finally got around to install the PSIO chip. Here's a pic:

Image

This is a US model (PU-8). Bought in 1997 at a local Kaybee Toys. That's a modchip at the center (installed way back then). Installation took me about 1 hour to complete. The trace cuts are in my opinion the most heart-wrenching of the process but the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Guess I'll find out if I did everything correctly once my unit arrives.

Thanks, I've placed your order one hold 'zePeido'.

Nice Switch Board install 'cargo'! It is a bad feeling when you cut the board, but the Switch Board ties those signals back together so they can then just be toggled when needed :)

We have pre-orders open again for PSIO Cartridges! Get in while you can :)

Here's a small treat for everyone. This is how we used to make the plastic shells/cases for PSIO prior to injection moulding. The process was extremely time consuming and very labour intensive. Obviously this method is no longer used, but I thought some might enjoy seeing how the CNC machine operated.

PSIO Cartridges heat-shrunk and ready to go into their white shipping boxes (as seen already being stacked on the floor). These will be shipped this week for the first lot of pre-orders from 2017 (see the timeline on the 'News' page for more info) ;)

Hey Matt, I'm a big Silent Hill fan and never heard about a hack using a Chinese PSX.

Can you elaborate what is this about?

There's no such thing as a "Chinese PSX". It's a BIOS replacement modification which alters the BIOS font.

Cool vid. No wonder you could only produce so many of these per month. I bet you didn't expect this huge demand when you started the PSIO project, did you?

Yeah, it was really painful to make the cartridges the old way. I also had to manually peel off each label from the 'new old stock' cases. I literally sat there heating each one up with a heat gun (so when I removed them, there wasn't 15 year old adhesive stuck to the plastic shell). Another painful task was that when we started out, we had no funds to get the PCB's assembled, so I hand assembled each BETA cartridge and soldered them in a home-made reflow over from K-Mart. Pick and placing just under one hundred 0603 components for fifty circuit boards and making sure they are all perfect isn't fun :?

We had a feeling PSIO would sell okay because we thought what we made was pretty neat. I mean, it is something I would buy immediately if I saw one. Speaking of which, I bought an EverDrive for my SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) when they came out from KrikZZ. It's just something you gotta' have! The Mega Drive doesn't really have a freezing problem (unless you bump the cartridge) though. The problem with the PlayStation is that infernal laser assembly. I can't stand the lasers in the PlayStation. The SEGA Saturn had a much better laser deck to be honest. I don't even have one PlayStation with a laser that works myself anymore!! They're all broken, and I've got over 20 PlayStation consoles. Haha. With that said however, no, we didn't really expect this type of volume in such a short period, so keeping up with demand is tough, especially when you're operating on pre-orders still, but we'll get out of that shortly because of how we shifted the products design and assembly process to meet the unexpected demand :)

DEMO 1 now works properly with CDDA/XA audio. I also suspect that other DEMO samplers that had issues, such as the PlayStation Underground discs should now work, but I'll need to do more testing to confirm that.

PSIO's compatibility is now at an all time high 8-)
I'll get an update released again soon
