Left/Right for Page Up/Down

Post by Jaggy » January 3rd, 2019, 6:00 am

Would it be possible to have Left/Right on the gamepad perform a Page Up/Down in the game list? This would be really helpful when navigating through a large SD card containing many titles.

Left/Right is used to scroll large game titles with an ellipses, so we used L2 and R2 instead.

Would it be possible to have L2/R2 move by full pages rather than just by 2 lines at a time?

Sure, I'll change this to skip by full pages instead of 2 lines at a time.

I like it the way it works right now. You only need to keep the button pressed and it gets you to the bottom of the list in no time.

But scrolling two lines at a time doesn't make much sense. Look at any desktop OS; you usually scroll one line or a page.

If we still have a button free for that, it could be used as a modifier and scroll to the next letter in the alphabet.

Thanks Matt, that would be great!

While you are at it, would it be too much to ask to have the list jump to the top when you reach the bottom (and vice-versa)? :)

I agree, scrolling 2 lines is odd and makes it hard to keep your place visually if you are searching, while not being as fast as page scroll to get through large lists. 1-line scroll is good for selecting a game, while page by page scrolling is good for navigating large lists while still being visually comprehensible.

You could still have the page scrolling run automatically by holding down the button if you wanted to jump down the list quickly, lets say by having it jump by a page per second or so, or long enough to be able to mentally process what letter you are currently at.
