Re: Feature Requests
support for games
Sony PlayStation[edit]
The PlayStation has two main types of light guns: the GunCon/G-Con by Namco and the Konami Justifier (known as the Hyperblaster in Japan and Europe). There were also other third-party and non-licensed light guns that were compatible with either: Justifier or GunCon games or both.
Area 51 (Justifier/Hyperblaster)
Crypt Killer (Justifier/Hyperblaster)
Die Hard Trilogy (Justifier/Hyperblaster)
Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas (Justifier/Hyperblaster or Guncon)
Elemental Gearbolt (Justifier/Hyperblaster or GunCon)
Extreme Ghostbusters: Ultimate Invasion (GunCon)
Ghoul Panic (GunCon)
Gunfighter: The Legend of Jesse James (GunCon)
Judge Dredd (Justifier/Hyperblaster or GunCon)
Lethal Enforcers 1&2 (Justifier/Hyperblaster)
Maximum Force (Justifier/Hyperblaster or GunCon)[51]
Mighty Hits Special (EU/JPN only, GunCon)
Point Blank (GunCon)
Point Blank 2 (GunCon)
Point Blank 3 (GunCon)
Project Horned Owl (Justifier/Hyperblaster)
Rescue Shot (GunCon)
Resident Evil Survivor (JPN/PAL versions) (GunCon)
Silent Hill (Justifier/Hyperblaster, used for an easter egg)
Snatcher (Justifier/Hyperblaster, contains light-gun sequences)
Star Wars: Rebel Assault II (Justifier/Hyperblaster, contains light-gun sequences)
Time Crisis (GunCon)
Time Crisis: Project Titan (GunCon)

Re: Feature Requests
Time Crisis, Point Blank and Ghoul Panic all work. There is no reason for the others to not work unless they touch the K1 register.
Re: Feature Requests
I will be testing all of the lightgun games as soon as I get my hands on PSIO.
I still have and use my 2 Guncons and Justifier, I will let you all know the results.
I frickin' Love Time Crisis and Point Blank!

Re: Feature Requests
A quick question here. can the PSIO be used as a address bus style flash cart for loading ROM based software/games? (like a gameshark or actionreplay cart rom) how much can that port address this way?

Sort of. You can't flash it, but you can boot CD-ROM images up to 650MB directly, which is much better than the older style flash carts that were limited to (if I recall) 2MB. More information about homebrew development will be in the Systems Manual on release.PhyChris wrote:A quick question here. can the PSIO be used as a address bus style flash cart for loading ROM based software/games? Re: Feature Requests
current version of PSIO can simulate AR device. this feature calls "fastboot".
we can use FBOOT.bin file to load internal buffer.
which means, when PSIO starts it check for the enabled bit (from MENU) , like "load from FBOOT.bin" ,
then it search such file in root of sd.
it based on fpga's memory of RAM type, size limit is 32k. or 15 address line used.
like AR, it uses 0x1f00-0000 adress base, same mechanism of booting, point 1 and 2 from bios.
as example : we used it to skip BIOS menu.

Re: Feature Requests
I have a 16GB card with all of my Guncon and Justifier games.
I would have the guns plugged in all the time for this but whenever you turn on PSIO it gives an error saying Playstation Gun is not supported and you need to plug in a gamepad to launch a game and then plug a gun back in.
Is there any way to have the Guncon use button A to scroll down, button B to scroll up, and shoot to be select so it can launch a game.
It wouldn't be able to select all options available in PSIO but at least you can launch a game without swapping from gun to gamepad and then once game launches switch back to gun.
The Justifier has the 3 buttons too so it could work with it too if it is possible with the PSIO menu.
If it's not possible to modify PSIO to have the gun buttons have menu control could you control PSIO with a gamepad plugged in to port 2 instead? That way you can still have 1 gun plugged in while you are on a lightgun playing session.

Yeah but 32K isn't merely enough to run any code for homebrew use.cybdyn wrote:current version of PSIO can simulate AR device. this feature calls "fastboot".

Yeah, I could do that. I bought a G-CON 45 specifically to test that error I programmed inTranqex wrote:I have a 16GB card with all of my Guncon and Justifier games.

Honestly, I was thinking about doing that from day one (same with mouse), so I might go ahead with it.

Re: Feature Requests
psio can give access to file on SD, which expand capabilities of developing for ps1. so the AR-style code can be small, and other data can be loaded from SD.
Re: Feature Requests
I have tested all of my Guncon games and they all work fine.
One interesting thing I did find was that the Japanese version of Mighty Hits Special SLPS-00583 uses the Justifier and not Guncon!
Tested games:
Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas (SLUS-01015)
Elemental Gearbolt (SLUS-00654)

Re: Feature Requests
Awesome. I will add them all to the compatibility list.
Re: Feature Requests
And for the Justifier I tested the remaining light gun games.
They all worked fine.
With Silent Hill, Snatcher, and Star Wars Rebel Assault II I didn't play through to the parts where you can use the gun but the games play fine.
Here's the list:
Mighty Hits Special (SLPS-00583)
Area 51 (SLUS-00164)
Crypt Killer (SLUS-00335)
Die Hard Trilogy (SLES-00445)
Lethal Enforcers 1&2 (SLUS-00293)
Project Horned Owl (SCUS-94408)
Silent Hill (SLUS-00707)
Snatcher (SLPS-00154)
Star Wars: Rebel Assault II (SLUS-00381)

I loaded them all up and they played fine.
No issues with sound or anything.

Re: Feature Requests
I have an idea about quick scroll.
When you have a card with 50+ games on it you can use fast scroll L2 and R2 to get down the menu quickly.
Using these goes through the game list fast but you can't really read the game names you are scrolling past.
I'm thinking there should be an option to have quick scroll changed to just show the next/previous page of games.
This way you could push R2 and it would show you the next page of 11 or 13 (NTSC or PAL mode) list of games.
I think you could have an option in the PSIO menu to change the fast scroll method from jumps up or down 2 games (current) or have it just change to the next page of games with each press.

Re: Feature Requests
I was thinking that the right analog stick could do that.
Also, clicking L3 and R3 would jump to the bottom and top of the list.
I'll get started on that shortly

Re: Feature Requests
Thought of another feature.
When you select a game it always defaults to the cover picture.
You can push circle to show the game details but if you reset PSIO it defaults back to the game cover.
Can an option be put in place so we can choose to have game details or cover pic showing as default?

Yeah it's primarily cause I'm making a list of games I'm testing and it makes it a bit easier.Shadow wrote:That's a bit over the top, but yeah, I'll make a note of that one.Tranqex wrote:Thought of another feature.

I'd much rather prefer Guncon menu control
