Feature Requests

Post by lovewiibrew » February 10th, 2012, 3:19 pm

Figured I'd start a thread on what features people wanted to see in PSIO. Mine are pretty simple. I want hdd loading of games and be able to scroll through game covers when selecting games (like a Wii usb loader).

This is for a Sony product. Not an Apple product
Anyway, all jokes aside, I'm not sure. I had this idea, but it would consume a lot of room on the SD card for storing cover images. I will see what i can do...

Either could be done, but the latter is much easier to implement since no soft-patching would be necessary to force Memory Card related stuff to a different peripheral.

2 Uriccardo : yes, its possible create the function of file manager to see what in MC path and copy to/from files/data on HDD/SD
also i plan HW support for directly access from MC port to PSIO board. or if i find out easy way to change syscalls or mclib from ps-exe of games to our function it will be SW mod.

As in save states, pucek? I know it's being done in the Mega everdrive by krikkz so I would think it possible.

Save states are definitively possible, they are just gonna be a little big (3+ MB each) and kind of slow to create or reload.

Aren't savestates just simply dumps of ram memory?

I reckon the most you would wait is 5 seconds.

Given it could be compressed, the save file creation should take less than 5 seconds. I'd say it could take about 2 seconds if gzipped. Usually an ePSXe save state (which is gzipped by default) takes from 1.10 MB up to 1.9 MB, the PIO transfer rate is about 3 MB/s and the internal processing of PSIO is 320 MHz, so it should be rather fast.

I feel that soon every good old retrogamer will take old gray machine from his attic and bring him his second life !

Will PSIO have access to GPU memory? It would be cool to take some screenshoots or maybe even recording some gameplay moovies for web tutorials.

psio - is only circuit board. but PSIO OS and any ps-exe code can access to every destination of mem, and to GPU too
