Questions before buying
Questions before buying
Hi, I have some questions about the device before buying it next batch it will be available.
Please note that I have already read the FAQ and it doesn't make crystal clear an answer for me.
A) does PSIO support single game multiple bin/cue files "redump.org style"?? (Not after cu2 conversion, and not after merging the audio tracks to the data track)
B) does PSIO support SDXC cards?? (128 gb and up)
C) What is the maximum number of games you can store in a single SD card??

Re: Questions before buying
A: No. For the time being a single .bin and a .cu2 (if needed) is all that is compatible.
B: I use one of these...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01 ... UTF8&psc=1
...and it works perfectly.
C: On that card above I can fit about 215+ discs on it.

Still for B and C it's not crystal clear. Can PSIO support over 128 gb cards, and most important, what is the maximum number of games you can store in an SD card - I'm asking because FAT32 has limitations.
** Also Important: are there plans to support 1:1 redump.org multiple bin/cue image files?

Re: Questions before buying
ReDump games (multi-bin images) will work, but you need to convert them first to a single image file using our 'Systems Console' Windows tool (available soon).
Re: Questions before buying
This is great news, and thanks are in order, but unfortunately not good for my collectionShadow wrote:ReDump games (multi-bin images) will work, but you need to convert them first to a single image file using our 'Systems Console' Windows tool (available soon).

Are there any plans to support multi-bin redump images "as-is" in the future by firmware upgrade?
That is what I want to know
Thank you

Ok, thank you for your time Shadow
So this leaves one question unanswered. Does anybody know what is the max. Number of games/images/files someone can store in one SD card for PSIO

512 with this new updating coming out

Re: Questions before buying
Ok, I think I'm covered now. If I may, one more question:
Does it support Libcrypt and/or anti-modchip games? Do you need e.g. An sbi subchannels file to be able to proceed in the game?

I hope you'll eventually change your mind, no direct ReDump format support = deal breaker.Shadow wrote:No.provato wrote:Are there any plans to support multi-bin redump images "as-is" in the future by firmware upgrade?Shadow wrote:ReDump games (multi-bin images) will work, but you need to convert them first to a single image file using our 'Systems Console' Windows tool (available soon).

This is a deal breaker for me also.
I can live with compatibility issues, file number limit, having 20 or even more SD cards for ps1 games, soldering the hell out of my board...
but I absolutely cannot change my ps1 collection database and checksums of the files.
Cu2 and tracks merging just complicates things for no reason, I believe.

Re: Questions before buying
it's intersting idea, any suggestions about how it will work?
Do multi-bin games use some description file, like CUE where we culd get informaton about content, or use similar names and some kind of sign about track , like game_xx_.track01.bin , game_xx_.track02.bin, etc ?

Re: Questions before buying
I would rather have better compatibility with games then support 1:1 redump games at the moment. Just duplicate your redump collection and run it through this program: http://thejbnet.com/blog/2016/05/16/redump2psio/
who cares if you have a separate folder for PSIO games only.

Re: Questions before buying
Read the Systems Manual in the Downloads section.
Page 25
Page 25
The game specific page on Redump will say if the game has LibCrypt, if so, it needs to be patched for it to work with PSIO.Q2) What is LibCrypt and why is it making my game not work?
A2) LibCrypt was Sony’s later method of adding copy protection to prevent piracy. PSIO does not support LibCrypt titles at this time. However, patches are available for most if not all games with LibCrypt. Please see http://ps-io.com/compatibility and look out for the LibCrypt information.
Re: Questions before buying
The simple cue file for multiple track game-image is simpler than a cue file for a merged track game-image.cybdyn wrote:it's intersting idea, any suggestions about how it will work?
Do multi-bin games use some description file, like CUE where we culd get informaton about content, or use similar names and some kind of sign about track , like game_xx_.track01.bin , game_xx_.track02.bin, etc ?
In the first case (multiple bin files + 1 cue file) the cue file directs to the track number
In the second case (1 merged bin file + 1 cue or cu2 file) the cue file has to direct to the sector and/or the time in seconds that a track starts. This is a far more complex cue file.
You can download all cue files for the dumped Playstation games in redump.org for free. I believe that a simple cue file contains all the info needed for a track to be located - the tracks are numbered: track 01.bin is always the data track and track 02 and after are the audio tracks.

Re: Questions before buying
What I believe is the issue is that certain games are not "calling tracks", but looking for specific sectors.
Re: Questions before buying
You mean the cd-rom emulator (that is PSIO) cannot be built to call upon tracks? I find that hard to believe, since real mixed CDs (data + audio) are read by real cd-roms by calling the audio tracks - not a specific sector. Unless you handle audio tracks as data tracks....TheShadowRunner wrote:What I believe is the issue is that certain games are not "calling tracks", but looking for specific sectors.
