PSIO does not show games anymore

Post by PascalP » May 23rd, 2017, 8:26 am

He guys,

Just installed my PSIO a few days ago and copied something like 8 games to it to test and everything was working fine.
After that played around a bit, tested some games, like Gunners Heaven and other NTSC stuff, and since everything was working fine I decided to create a full 32GB card with my favorite games.

Upon checking all games and creating CU2 where needed with the PSIO software I also added BMP 80x84 covers to every game folder and copied everything over to my SD cart
Result, out of the 46 games (25GB) I only see about 10 games on the PSX, also some games which worked before with the initial test disappeared, all I did was add a BMP in the folders. (still using the same SD card)
After that I decided to reformat my SD cart as FAT32 and copy everything over in 1 batch, after this I only see 1 game :shrug
I don't know what's wrong, as I'm still using the same source files as the initial testing which worked, only exception being the BMP files.

PSIO is on the latest ARM and FPGA firmware, menu is the latest version
PSX model is NTSC-J 1000, no modchip or whatsoever
SD card is Sandisk Ultra 32GB

Any advice?
Thanks!

That's very strange. I honestly have no idea what could be causing that. I want to say that your SD Card is obviously the problem. Try using a different SD Card, and use a different computer to copy the files across.

ok, will try a different SD card tonight, in Windows the copied content on the SD card looks good like it should.

update on my issue. tried the following things;

- reformatted the SD card as FAT32 both with default windows and GUIformat tool with default and larger cluster size
- changed settings on PSIO to default
- removed fastboot
- downloaded menu.sys again
- unpacked my PSX backup RAR files again, so have them in a state from before I started working with covers and CU2 sheets
- changed MC68HC705 License from AUTO to SCEA and SCEI
- did all the same with a second 32GB SD card (A-Data)

No improvement, only game I can get to show in the PSIO list is Gunners Heaver (J), nothing else...

If I remove the only working game from the SD (Gunners Heaven), I get this error;
Error code: 80000005:
No folders were found on your Secure Digital (SD) Card. Please place your PlayStation format
game images within a self-contained directory and re-insert your SD Card to continue

and after formatting/copying all files again from another machine (laptop with built in SD reader), still the same result...

Can you do a "tree /f /a > tree.txt" via a command prompt window from the path on your SD Card and send me the results please (it will generate a text file on your SD Card (in my case, drive P:\))?

And I tried another SD card, from this card these games work;

Final Fantasy VII disc1
guilty gear
mega man 8
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Super Puzzle fighter
Tekken 3

Did nothing different when creating the card, but get different results compared to the other card;

Full list attached (note; here I copied the RAW files, didn't do CU2 conversion for multiple BIN files yet)

Don't think the file names for Tekken will be too long... ;)

"Het volumenummer is 8AF2-2358". You are writing in Dutch? The FAT system might not like that if one char is bad. Might make it go crazy :)

Make sure your folder names are in a standard Unicode format.
I believe PSIO was designed for UTF-8, but I'll check that and let you know.

Yes it is Dutch (and not German like you thought before your edit :P), I did the following now on 1 of my SD cards:

- Gave the SD a volume name (was blank before), now it's PSIO
- Renamed / simplified every folder, should all be Unicode compliant I would say
- Renamed all files inside the folder to match the folder name
- Removed all dublicate cover art (JPG/PNG), just left to 80x84 BMP files

Also checking the tree.txt with Notepad++ it gives no errors on UTF-8

Please see the attached files for screenshots of what I see and a new tree.txt file

To double check, I just opened up my PS console to verify all connection of the switch board and rechecked all cut traces, everything is OK.

Also loading a CD via the PSIO menu works well and also booting a CD directly with the PSIO unplugged works fine.

Why on earth is it saying your PlayStation ROM ID is "$<f".

This is how the ROM ID is detected:

Code: Select all

memcpy(psxver, (void *)0xBFC7FF45, 4);
memcpy(&psxver[4], (void *)0xBFC7FF52, 1);
psxver[5] = 0;
You're using a SCPH-1000 (Japanese) and I don't have one so I can't test, but the checksum it's calculated does match a ROM dump I have here. I believe it should say "1.0 J".

Ah, okay, offset 0x7FF45 is "$<f". I'll need to patch that in the Menu System now. Old BIOS :)

That's either now made me believe that the memory is being corrupted, or the older BIOS's have a different offset. It shouldn't do that though because I allocated the heap after the BSS in memory, and the directory listing is allocated into the BSS (not the heap).

Let me run some diagnostics and get back to you. Perhaps I broke something in the new memory allocation logic, but I'm using a 64 GB SD Card with 117 items in the root directory and it's fine for me. Replicating this issue is too difficult.

*UPDATE*: Looks like I found a bug in the dynamic memory allocation routines. Let me patch them and release an updated Menu System. That hopefully should fix your issue.

thanks man, can't wait for the patch :D
And yes, it is the very first version of the PS1, even has the s-video connection, so old BIOS makes sense...

Okay, I've updated the Menu System to V2.1.0. Give it a go and see if it fixes your problems :)
