Newly added games containing a CU2 file freezes PSIO

Post by PauluzNL » April 28th, 2017, 7:50 am

Hi!

Newly added games containing a CU2 file will freeze my PSIO in menu. The game shows up in the main menu, but after selecting it my PSIO freezes and returns to main menu after about 30 seconds. Never showing the game´s submenu and cannot boot. All conversions are done with the systems console.

Newly added games without a CU2 file work.
Old games with CU2 file that were allready on the SD card are booting fine.

Can you run 'tree /f /a > tree.txt" in your SD Card's root directory (via a CMD window obviously) and send me the file please?

I'm having this exact same issue. Anyone figure it out yet?

I fixed it by formatting the cards to 1024 cluster size. It was the only way to get the psconsole made ones to work when the damon tools merged ones and single bin worked regardless of cluster size on the card. Very impressed with your work on this so far.

Ah, that means that PSIO was failing to read the CU2 from the SD Card because the cluster size wasn't aligned properly. Someone has had that issue before in the past too. What SD Card are you using exactly?

I was using sandisk cards. One was a sandisk 400gb (the one everyone has been buying up on black Friday sale), and the other was a sandisk extreme pro 256gb. I also used a transcend 32gb card with similar results. If its any difference I am using a launch model psx 1001 with a pu-8 board

Some microSD converters have shown to be problematic from what I experienced.

Did you format them all as exFAT or FAT32? Remember that cards less than or equal to 32 GB must be FAT32, but anything greater than 32 GB must be exFAT.

I will have to check the SD Card logic for cluster size information to make sure it's being handled correctly. What cluster size was failing for you? Do you remember??

They were all exfat formatted except the 32gb card. I tried default, 128, 256, 2048, and then someone on facebook suggested 1024.

Not sure if it helps,

I know windows 10 creates a different type of FAT partition than Windows 7 and earlier, not sure if this also extends to FAT32 and exFAT. Maybe some issue here?

Windows 10 might be using some non standard cluster size which some SD Card C++ libraries have trouble with. I'll have to take a look into it.

*EDIT*
Okay, I just formatted my 128 GB SD Card as exFAT using 2048 bytes per cluster on my Windows 10 laptop and it's working fine with CU2 sheets and loading games. It must be an alignment issue with the clusters when many files are copied. What steps must I take to re-create this bug exactly?

Both current Kingston 128gb cards I have (older grey stock and newer Canvo) Formatted to Exfat + default cluster size produce crashes with certain multi-disc games. 1024Kb up to 3mb sizes fix this issue for me, as anything lower or higher does not work properly.

Ah, the multidisc issue has been fixed in the new update I'm working on (Menu System V2.6.4). I wanted to know why it locked up for 30 seconds when you selected a normal game.
