My local store got in a PlayStation 1001 unit in box and since I’m an in box collector and it’s the best unit made, I was wondering how it holds up for the PSIO in comparison to the current unit I have which is the 5501. The unit is $70 in box so I definitely want to make sure there’s no issues with the switch board or PSIO on that mode before I buy it and have it modded.
In my case I have the SCPH-1001 (composite outputs on the back) and it works fine with the PSIO. You might want to get the caps replaced as a maintenance measure as it can be potentially beneficial for this particular model. That said it is my understanding that all PSIO compatible models perform the same.

Good point mentioning the board revision, I would try to avoid PU-7 (systems made very close to release date) due to the texture banding issues.
