Re: PSIO Wallpaper Thread

If I had a choice, my preferred method is Floyd-Steinberg. I'm not really a fan of ordered dithering, unless for imitating a retro look like on a Game Boy like you said.

Re: PSIO Wallpaper Thread

I wonder please if you might be good enough to explain in idiots guide fashion how you do this in say Photoshop? Would be greatly appreciated, Many thanks. Well I don't have Photoshop anymore, and I recall the old version I had it was like tracking down hidden treasure. Meanwhile Paint Shop Pro mak...

Re: switchboard installation gone wrong? some help please! :(

One thing to look for is if you're pinch-grounding lines to the board during re-assembly of the console. I know of one other person that asked me for help, and it turned out he had not paid attention to the grounding squares on the motherboard where the wires must stay clear of them. I also go the e...

Re: switchboard installation gone wrong? some help please! :(

See if the PSU board will stay green lit if you unplug it from the mother board before turning it on. If it does, you may have a short in your install.

Re: Do I even need the laser connected?

Thanks, I pulled it since the thing didn't work worth a crap anyway. Also did a no-cut digital audio mod. PSX digital audio is a thing of beauty. Here's a recording from my mod using the PSIO:

Do I even need the laser connected?

Just curious: Will my playstation work with the PSIO if I completely remove the laser assembly, or does it need to be hooked up? I could easily check this by removing the assembly and trying it out, but I don't want to find out that bricks the PSIO or something catastrophic. Thanks!

I noticed the same differences on my board as well. I was still able to do the install successfully anyway.

Re: Issues with Castlevania Chronicles (JAPAN) and (USA)

Redump of the USA version works fine on my PSIO. I'm using the redump version, yet do you get random pauses with the BGM in both Original and Arrange modes? Tried all KV modes and makes no difference, as i'm getting 3-5 secs cut off delay before the music plays again. I'll check again to make sure,...

Re: Doom& final freezing?

I couldn't get past the text after the Williams logo for either Doom or Final Doom, and both were working before the current patch. I'll try redump versions to see if that makes any differences I I'm currently using my own image copies.

Re: PSIO Wallpaper Thread

What sucks is modern paint programs don't simply let you 'work' in a 32K color environment. So if you try to apply a gradient or other effect, the paint program uses 16 million colors regardless. I haven't been able to find a way around this in either Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. I'm of the mind to ...

Re: Bitmap color count for wallpaper:

I looked into photoshop last night and it is difficult. I think I got it to work, but I need to double check. In Paint Shop Pro, this is very easy because it actually gives you the option to use diffusion when you select 32K color depth. This is one instance where the over-complicated mess of photos...

Re: PSIO Wallpaper Thread

Just a heads up as I had to determine this the hard way: There's going to be nearest-neighbor banding on PSIO wallpapers unless you take the time to use error diffusion in a paint program and down-sample the color palette to 32,768 colors. Here's the PSX splatter wallpaper with proper 32K color diff...

Re: Bitmap color count for wallpaper:

Update: I was able to reproduce the banding effect going on in the wallpaper images. You might want to put this info in the manual PDF: Background wallpaper bitmaps must be set to 32,768 colors, otherwise, unwanted banding will be applied. Use a paint program to enable error diffusion when down-samp...

Re: Bitmap color count for wallpaper:

Okay I will look into it. Because there's serious banding going on in the wall paper images. I will dump a screen through optimal OSSC timing and do a color count to make sure.

Bitmap color count for wallpaper:

Just a quick question: It looks like there's some color count reduction going on in bitmap wallpapers loaded into the PSIO menu screen. What's the color count allotted to the wallpaper? This info will help me to properly pre-dither wallpapers to avoid banding. Thanks!

Re: Official PSIO News and Development Thread

Here's a question: For those getting the lockup: Did you have fast-boot disabled? On mine, I have it enabled to where it skipped the Sony intro, and the update worked fine. I'm wondering if there's anything to that maybe?

Re: Official PSIO News and Development Thread

Mine is From the June 2017 pre-order. Received September this year. That should be the same as mine then. Out of curiosity, when it asked you to delete the firmware file while updating, did you leave the PSIO turned on and simply eject the card, load it into your PC, delete the file, insert the car...
